Do Vuity eye drops work?

The first eye drop approved by the FDA to reduce the need for reading glasses is now available with prescription.   Pilocarpine 1.25% is a parasympathomimetic agent that can make the pupil a bit smaller and strengthen the focus muscles in the eye.  It can reduce the need for reading glasses for hours and is usually taken once per day.  A second drop can extend this time.  This will be a great option for those who have never worn glasses and find they have blurred near vision after 45, and for those who have had LASIK and wish to remain glasses free, and for those who wear contact lenses and now have blurred near vision.  This is one of 5 new drugs for presbyopia that will be approved over the next years, including a new class that can soften collagen cross link bonds, allowing the natural lens in the eye to remain flexible.

Samples of Vuity are available.  Make an appointment today to see if this drop is appropriate for you.

Minor side effects reported include stinging, redness, and brow ache.  Tell your doctor if you have history of retinal detachment or uveitis and what other eyedrops and medications you take.
